Fruity Pita Sandwiches

Ready for a super easy and healthy lunch or snack idea? We love these Fruity Pita Sandwiches as a nice little treat. Sometimes we make them for the perfect after school snack, or you can pack them up for lunch. Whole wheat pita with almond butter and fruit makes it a healthy treat that almost tastes like dessert. To make this recipe lunchbox-ready, drizzle apple slices with lemon juice and assemble the pita sandwiches just before eating.

Once a week I pick an idea to make for the kids lunches that is more fruit based. These Fruity Pita Sandwiches are just that. They are simple to assemble but are still a complete meal. A few weeks ago we made the Fruity PB & J Sandwiches which were a hit so I figured I would try something fun on some pitas. We used apples and kiwi fruit in this recipe but feel free to have the kids add their favorite fruits like strawberries or banana. We also used almond butter for the base but you can use your family’s favorite nut butter or alternative butter.

How to make Fruity Pita Sandwiches

The kids liked these little fruit filled pitas so much that we have made them several times after school for a quick snack. Perfect if you have sports practice or other running around to do later in the evening, too. Best part as always, is that the kids can make this one! I sliced up the apples and kiwi and they spread the almond butter and layered the fruit.

Key Ingredients for these Fruity Pita Sandwiches

Whole Wheat Pitas– we generally tend to lean towards whole wheat products or whole grain. If your family likes regular that is fine, too! Whole wheat products are less processed which means they hold more of their nutritional value from the grains themselves.

Almond Butter- we change up the nut butters that we use in our house to keep things interesting. If you like peanut butter, or other alternative butters use that! Almond butter is a great choice because it is a great source of protein, heart healthy fats, and benefits that even contribute to a healthy heart.

Apples– An apple a day….well we have all heard it but really apples are a wonderful fruit to add to your daily diet. Loaded with Vitamin C, fiber, and benefits that help fight off diseases. PLUS we love them!

Kiwi– Kiwi is a fun fruit to keep around just to add an extra tropical flavor to your recipes! PLUS these little fruits are loaded with potassium, Vitamin C, and antioxidants.

How to assemble these Fruity Pita Sandwiches

First lay out your whole wheat pita on a clean surface. Then spread with the almond butter.

Next layer your apple slices and kiwi fruit on top! Enjoy right away or if packing for lunch you can always keep the apples separate with a drizzle of lemon juice to prevent from browning. Then just add them when ready to eat.

If packing for lunch, make sure to add in your favorite veggies as a side to make it a complete meal!

Make sure to PIN it!
